Nicky Hager has released a new book on New Zealand’s involvement in Afghanistan, Iraq and “the war on terror”, claiming officials and military officers misled politicians and even ignored and broke “clear instructions issued by the Prime Minister and the Government”.
The book, called Other People’s Wars: New Zealand in Afghanistan, Iraq and the war on terror, has been released to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
Hager’s book on the so-called “corngate” affair, claiming a cover-up of imported genetically-modified seed, threatened to derail the 2002 election campaign.
In 2006, his book The Hollow Men, helped topple former National Party leader Don Brash.
In the introduction to his book, Hager said access to classified internal documents provided “a view of a culture where some senior officers wanted to obey the Government only when they agreed with it and otherwise quietly undermined its policies and decisions. The same politicisation is seen with some foreign affairs officials”.
He suggested the decision by some military and officials to cross the line and involve themselves in politics dated back to their unwillingness to accept New Zealand’s anti-nuclear policy of the mid 1980s.
“For these people, the September 11 attacks became an opportunity to achieve their political goals in spite of, and directly in opposition to, the policies and instructions of their civilian leaders.”

Submission on the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service Amendment Bill
My name is Roger Morris. I am an artist , and I wish to speak toward power becoming more secretive, and its practitioners less accountable in a very dangerous world.
I note the advice of the Privacy Commissioner that review of security laws should take up to three years.
As far as I can judge, in according these POWERS to our State Security Service, we are relying on a trust that operational and Director behavior will prove honorable to the task, an honor historically proven susceptible to centralized power and external influence.[War Terror, Ahmed ZAOUI],
I recognize a violent world within which Intelligence allegiances, militarism and secrecy play an ever wider, ever more personally invasive role. Not necessarily protective of individual citizens rights involved in genuine advocacy.
A world dominated by the central narrative WAR on TERROR.
From which, in essence, the needs of this Bill derive.
A narrative now widely understood to be deceptive.[Weapons of Mass Destruction.]
Within this, New Zealand’s part becomes less its own and more one in alliance with a dominating world view. That world view encompasses reduction of Habeas Corpus rights on a global citizenship. Has mandated authority for itself to conduct illegal Wars, pre-emptive strikes, Occupation, Torture, Extraordinary Rendition and targeted assassination of suspects without trial.
This SIS Bill appears to streamline interoperability and compliance with outside agencies involved in the war on terror.
It appears to narrow power to the singular [Director], with no, or lesser, independent or Judicial review.
5AA[1] The Director may delegate powers to a specified class of employees of the service.
Where is that class specified?
It is conceivable other intelligence services could be delegated power under this specified class to act within NZ Jurisdiction, who could also, in turn, purport or have purport, another person entirely unknown to act within NZ Jurisdiction.
5AA[7] A person purporting to act under any delegation under this section is, in the absence of proof to the contrary, presumed to be acting in accordance with the terms of the delegation.
What if they are not?
Why would a person ‘purporting’ to act under delegation be presumed to be acting under delegation?
Of lesser concern, 5AAB[4] allows for a director to initiate delegation, but not necessarily notify the next director.
However, these are material questions probably easily answered.
My primary concern is, that by enacting the BILL – even though I can see it as proper with regard combatting genuine high crime – notwithstanding that, but with regard the War on TERROR, by signing, we as a nation show further acceptance of and compliance with another BEHAVIOR altogether.
It is THAT connection that disturbs me.
If we accept and participate in WAR based on false premise – actually known deceptions [WMD's. No fore-knowledge of 911];
a WAR declared illegal by the United Nations; a WAR that has killed and maimed and displaced millions of people in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan; now rapidly SPREADING; if we use that impetus – the WAR on TERROR – to empower our own state security apparatus to strengthen ITs power to surveil its own population,
what does that say to the purpose of surveillance?
In the world of technology and high crime, as said, I have nothing against enabling Law agencies tools to fight criminality at these levels – legitimate concerns balanced -
But the WAR on TERROR is something ELSE. It is a Fear based Narrative constructed to facilitate Wars of Aggression and used to justify greater State Secrecy and powers of Surveillance/information gathering worldwide, and now here through this Bill.
It is also a fast Devolving Fabrication. One built upon the Greater Deception of 911 itself. Something our Parliament has not confronted in any perceivable manner, but,
as the growing Forensic and other evidence gathered in the past ten years clearly show,
one which HAS to be contended with by the Representatives of the people of New Zealand, if we are going to continue to use it as justification for expansion of security LAW .

In the name of ‘National Security’, and in the build-up to the Rugby World Cup, the government is pushing through a Bill to enhance the powers of the SIS. And John Key says, “We do not need to know what’s happening.”
In rushing through this Bill, the government is specifically ignoring the advice of the Privacy Commissioner. She stated that review of the security laws should take up to three years. However, Key isn’t prepared to wait that long and is using the Rugby World Cup and ‘National Security’ as a pre-text to strengthen the powers of the SIS.
The purpose of the SIS is to gather ‘intelligence’ on anything that threatens the ‘national security’ and to assess the risk posed. This means spying on anyone they consider a potential danger – from individuals (both NZ citizens and visitors, e.g Ahmed Zaoui, Keith Locke), to groups of people (HART, Greenpeace). There is very little parliamentary oversight of the SIS, and there is no complaints process for the public. The director of the SIS is directly responsible to the Prime Minister.
This Bill needs to be stopped. It is yet another example of the type of legislation that the NZ Law Commissioner warned us against in 1991 (ten years before 9/11) when he said that, “The danger is that States will over-react… [I]t is possible to imagine government officials doing more to destroy democracy in the name of counter-terrorism than is presently likely to be achieved by terrorists themselves.” [NZLC R22 Wellington 1991]. Let’s not allow the SIS bill to be added to the already long list of repressive laws such as the Terrorism Suppression Act (2002), Government Communications Security Bureau Act (2003) and the Search and Surveillance Bill.

Bilderberg member Hillary Clinton arrived at Parliament today, and was welcomed by a protest featuring NZ911TRUTH. TVNZ aired footage of Mike Woods, who said “the evidence is overwhelming that the buildings [WTC 1, 2 & 7] were brought down by controlled demolition”. 3NEWS – the music video and celebrity gossip specialists – did a poorer job by not airing the raw footage on live TV. Although, they did post raw footage on their website. In the online footage, TV3 filmed a clip showing Jade Tuckwell’s sign, which read “Hillary’s CFR pimps want to steal Iran’s oil”.
TVNZ political reporter Michael Parkin described the protest as “pretty pitiful”. This comes as no surprise given the small turnout, which mainly featured members of Peace Action Wellington and Indymedia. Regardless, it achieved a milestone for NZ911TRUTH. This was the first time NZ911TRUTH received coverage of its own, as opposed to us getting coverage for AE911TRUTH. Follow the links below to watch the videos:
